King Richard II

William Shakespeare

for the 1959/1960 season at the Old Vic Theatre, London
First performance: 17th November 1959
The Financial Times' reviewer really disapproved
of the production: "
... He [director Val May] was
not helped, it is true, by Mr. Richard Negri's costumes
and dècor. The sets seemed specially contrived to
throw the play as far back as possible into the
recesses of his stage, and the costumes swayed
between the ordinary and the vulgar."
